Welcome to the first edition of USA Field Hockey’s BAM, a newsletter for boys’ and men’s field hockey leaders and enthusiasts. The goal of the newsletter is to communicate directly with those most interested in boys’ and men’s field hockey and to build a network to promote and grow opportunities in the United States.

After this initial newsletter subsequent editions will be released quarterly and will provide updates and highlight key initiatives that are driving boys’ and men’s opportunities.

Ways to Help Grow Hockey for Boys!

Been an activist for boys’ field hockey for years? Forming a new boys' or men’s league you want publicized? Tell us about it! USA Field Hockey wants to showcase any and all boys’ and men’s field hockey stories, initiatives and opportunities in future newsletters. Email your successes to [email protected].

As a coach or club leader, you might not know where to start when including boys within your program. Email Marc Bakerman, USA Field Hockey’s Boys Development Manager, at [email protected] to set up a call.

USA Field Hockey is continually looking to grow domestic and international opportunities for co-ed, boys and men divisions to play, compete and develop in the sport.

He has worked tirelessly to grow the game among boys and girls in California, leads the partnership with L.A. Recreation and Parks, and continues to serve on the U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Foundation.

Harry was appointed the head coach of the USMNT in April 2021, after previously serving as the chief coach of the senior India Men’s National Team from 2017-18. In addition to his experience on the men’s side of the game, Singh also served as the head coach of India’s Women’s National Team from 2017-18.

In total, Singh has claimed eight gold medals, five silver and nine bronze at various tournaments on the international level and has coached more than 350 international matches between the junior and senior national teams.

He has led the USMNT to fourth place finishes at the 2022 Pan American Cup and 2023 Pan American Games, both held in Santiago, Chile and Hockey5s squad to a gold medal at the 2023 Hockey 5s Pan American Cup and direct qualification to the 2024 FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman.

Jason Mulder | U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team Head Coach – [email protected]

At the start of April 2021, Jason was named the head coach of the U.S. Men's National Indoor Team. Most recently he led the squad to a fourth place finish at the FIH Hockey Indoor World Cup in February 2023. This is the highest finish ever for the Wolves at the event and their historic performance has propelled them to No. 8-ranked in the world.

Jason hails from Cape Town, South Africa and began his coaching career in 2009 at Central Hockey Club. Most recently he was a volunteer assistant at Syracuse, Bryant and Maryland before joining Towson in 2019. From 2019 to 2022, he was a full-time assistant coach for the Tigers and during his time he helped lead the program to the most wins since 2011, going 5-13, including winning their second conference game since 2011.

Expansion of Boys’ Field Hockey Development Centers

Over the coming months, Marc Bakerman will be working with USMNT Head Coach Harry Singh and staff to re-establish criteria, identify and secure the Boys’ Field Hockey Development Centers.

These centers are where boys specific training starts, and where boys can discover, play, and learn, compete, and improve, and be identified for high performance potential and peak performance training. Boys’ Development Centers have organized training and competitions in quality facilities, with trained and certified coaches approved by USA Field Hockey.
